C.W.P.M Bulk Pick-Up 2025

Bulk Pick Up

Plainville residents who currently have curbside rubbish and recycling collection through the Town can request one bulk pickup per calendar year free of charge for acceptable large items in the spring OR the fall through C.W.P.M only. * No additional bulk collections are allowed* *Bulk pickup is not available during the winter season.* Please scroll down to the bottom of this page to view a list of acceptable bulk items. *Sometimes if there is a high volume of bulk requests, CWPM may have to go out the following day to continue pickups.* limit one (1) collection per building**

BULK REFUSE COLLECTION – 2025
Bulk collection will take place ON MONDAY'S during the following periods:

SPRING: April 7th 2025 through June 30th 2025 (excluding May 26th, 2025 due to Memorial Day) for the Spring collections.

FALL: September 8, 2025 through October 27, 2025

  • Eligible property owners* must call CWPM at 860-793-6721 to schedule a pickup.
  • When calling, you will need to leave the following information on CWPM's answering machine: your name, address, phone number and a complete description of the items to be collected.
  • Calls placed by 3:00pm Friday can be scheduled for collection on Monday. If there is a specific Monday a resident would like for an appointment during bulk season please make sure that the desired Monday is said during the initial appointment call, if not pick-ups will be for the following Monday as long as the calls are placed by 3:00 pm on Friday.

*Please Note:Pickups must be scheduled by property owners only! Multi-family residents (2-5 units) must also be scheduled by property owners/landlords.** The amount of bulk pick-up collections goes by buildings. For Example: A two or three family house will only have one opportunity for one pick-up either in the spring or fall, same for a single family house. It is in the property owners best interest to inform their residents they are planning on having a bulk collection so all their residents can participate as each home/ building is only allowed one per year. *

Bulk items should be placed curbside no more than 24 hours before your scheduled pickup. Bulk items must not block or create a safety concern for sidewalks or walkways.

Please keep weekly trash separate and miscellaneous iron/steel separate from bulk. Iron/Steel materials will be collected from a different truck after regular bulk items are collected. Questions, can be referred to Public Works Administration at 860-793-0221 ext.7176.

**Excluding appliances or furniture, remaining bulk items must not exceed 3 cubic yards (an area 3' high, 3' deep, 9' long). **

*Sleeper Sofa: Metal bed frames must be removed/separated from the sofa shell before placing curbside.

Tires/Rims Yes Limit 2 per household. Passenger tires only. Tires must be removed from rims.** Should be kept separate from other bulk items**
Miscellaneous Iron/Steel Yes Maximum length 6 feet. Weight restricted to manual lifting by 2 persons.- * Iron and Steel items should be separate from other bulk items*
Mattresses/Box Springs Yes Weight restricted to manual lifting by 2 persons. *Limit 2 per household.*
Brush/Branches/ Natural Wood Fencing Yes Must be in 4 feet or less lengths, tied, and no larger than 6" diameter. (NO LEAVES OR GRASS CLIPPINGS) Fencing must be 3'x5' or smaller.
Barrels/Drums Yes Remove both ends and cleaned.
Leaves NO Leaves will not be collected bagged or loose. Leaves can be brought to the Transfer Station during its open season-Saturdays 8:00 am to 3:00 pm- *See transfer station hours and ordinance* or during leaf collection time in the fall season. Any bags will need to be removed.
Oil Base Paint/ Regular Paint NO Yearly at Hazardous Waste Collection or please refer to the Public Works section for acceptable paint drop off locations. Paint-care
Grass Clippings NO Grass clippings is not allowed. Grass clippings are banned from disposal at landfills and incinerators. Leave them on the lawn where they will decompose and act as a natural organic fertilizer. Grass clippings can also be brought down to 65 Triano Drive in Southington, CT (there would be a charge). Bathroom Fixtures NO Porcelain tubs( this also includes hot tubs) /sinks/toilets/shower stalls. Can be brought to the Berlin Transfer Station or C.C.R.R located on 65 Triano Drive in Southington, CT (there would be fees). Building or Demolition Materials NO Shingles, Sheetrock, Brick, Stone, Concrete, etc. will not be collected. The Berlin Transfer station located at 415 Christian Lane in Berlin does accept these materials for a fee. https://cttransferstation.com/
Large Mirrors NO Due to safety concerns and the possibility the glass in the mirror will shatter during pickup.
Wood Construction/ Landscaping Materials NO Stick lumber/landscaping ties/plywood, etc.- The Plainville Transfer Station located at Granger Lane (Saturdays only, during its open season)- will accept BRUSH (four feet maximum length, less than six inches in diameter. For a fee. Plywood and other wood type construction materials can be brought to the Berlin Transfer Station.
Televisions NO Televisions can be brought down to the Transfer Station, during it's open season free of charge. Plainville residents only.
Motor Vehicle Parts/Batteries NO Not Accepted- Some auto retail stores will accept items like car batteries.
Stumps NO Not Accepted-
Propane Tanks NO

Grills can be collected by C.W.P.M Bulk Pickup, but the propane tanks will not be accepted**

Tank must be disposed of by returning it to the distributor or accepted at the Berlin Transfer station with valves removed for a fee.

Cardboard boxes NO Can be disposed of when broken down in regular recycle bins (must be in the recycle bins, with lids closed, not on top of the bins or next to bins) or can be brought to the Transfer Station on Granger Lane during open season
Household Waste NO Bulk Pick-up is for larger bulky items. Regular waste gets collected weekly. Regular household waste items can be brought to the Transfer Station on Granger Lane during open season if household waste was not collected through C.W.P.M on the day of collections.
Residential Electronics / E-Waste NO Electronic waste is collected at the Transfer Station at no charge. Click here for a list of accepted items.
